Black Woman Legislator Locked In Capitol by Texas Racists

Texas Democrats recently left the state in protest to block racist mid-decade redistricting maps designed to dilute the voices of Black & Brown voters and hand Republicans five extra seats—seats ripped away from the largely communities of color who actually live in those districts. 

In retaliation, Republicans turned the legislature into a cage: demanding “permission slips” and police escorts for Democrats to leave the chamber—not for safety, but for surveillance. Read that again. When Rep. Nicole Collier, a Black woman, refused, she was locked inside the Capitol overnight.

This is not governance in any democracy. It is authoritarian intimidation, plain and simple. maga has unleashed idiocracy and is pushing democracy to its breaking point.

And it’s bigger than one woman refusing to be cornered in her own Capitol. This is the latest act in a long history of using boundary lines to box in Black & Brown communities, erasing representation, muting voices, and suppressing power.

Requiring “permission slips” and police escorts to control elected lawmakers is not just absurd. It’s documented authoritarianism. maga, under trump’s directive, is stress-testing the system. If they can lock a duly elected Black woman in the chamber, what on earth will they do tomorrow?

It’s fair to call this what it is: white supremacy directed straight from the Oval Office.
