They said they’d lower prices.
They promised relief for the middle class. They claimed the problem was the "others"—the immigrants, the outsiders, the supposed culprits behind everything from rising grocery prices to your neighbor losing his job. They said they’d drain the swamp, bring back dignity, and protect American families.
Instead, they passed the Big Hateful Bill.
This isn't some internet conspiracy or clickbait headline. This is real. This is the actual legislation (linked below), passed by House Republicans, written in cold, clinical legalese—because they’re counting on you NOT READING IT! They hope you’ll just nod along to the headlines and never dig into the horror underneath.
Well, we did. And it’s worse than you think.
Let’s start with the headlines they don't want you to see:
$45 billion for expanding immigrant detention centers under Section 70101, including ones for families and children, with no requirement that they be licensed by states. That means more families locked up in privately-run hellholes, for longer, with less oversight.
$858 million in bonuses for ICE agents—outlined in Section 70102—rewards for those willing to sign up to rip families apart, and stick around to keep doing it.
$8 billion more to hire 10,000 new ICE agents over the next few years under Section 70103. You read that right. They’re building a deportation army.
Oh, and remember how they promised to fight for working families? They cut your legs out from under you.
They’re banning federal Medicaid funds from going to any health provider that even dares to offer abortion services—Section 44126—even if that abortion is privately funded, even if the pregnancy threatens the mother’s life. This is a backdoor effort to shut down Planned Parenthood and similar providers entirely.
They’re slashing access to Obamacare in Section 44201, restricting enrollment periods, increasing income verification hurdles, and kicking people off coverage if they don’t perfectly file and reconcile tax documents every single year. Get sick, miss a form, lose your health care. Just like that.
They’re giving corporations more tax breaks—extending Trump’s infamous tax cuts, juicing depreciation limits for big-ticket business write-offs in Sections 111001, 111004, and 111103, and padding the pockets of developers exploiting "Opportunity Zones" to build luxury condos, not help struggling communities.
But it doesn’t stop at policy. It goes after your rights too.
Section 112209 gives the President sweeping power to strip tax-exempt status from any nonprofit he decides is "supporting terrorism." No court review. No clear definition. Just presidential decree.
What happens when Trump—or any future strongman—decides your university is too radical? When he labels a protest as "terrorism" because students chanted against ICE? When a civil rights organization dares to fight back and suddenly finds its funding gone?
Don’t say it won’t happen. He’s already said he wants to do it.
And yet they dare to call this a bill for you.
They promised to fight for the forgotten American, the working mom, the laid-off factory worker, the small business owner trying to stay afloat.
Instead, they handed billions to ICE, gutted your health care, and set fire to the basic freedoms we’ve taken for granted.
Not because they care about you.
Because they know if you're scared, you're easier to control.
Scared of immigrants. Scared of losing your job. Scared of being poor. Scared of change.
So they give you a scapegoat—and while you're yelling at your neighbor, they’re emptying your pockets.
This is not just about politics. This is about your life. Your kids. Your healthcare. Your rights.
They lied. They voted. Now, they hope you won’t notice.
But we did.
And if you’re angry? If you feel betrayed?Good.
Because that’s the start of fighting back.
Read the bill. Share it. Talk about it. Show people what they passed. Because when they come for you—and they will—you’ll wish more people had paid attention.
Let’s not say we didn’t see it coming. Let’s say we stood up instead.
